About Us

We are Zenithal Blue, an Earth observation company
that bridges engineering precision and scientific depth.

Our main goal

Our work supports space missions in delivering reliable data and helps science turn that data into a deeper understanding of our planet.

We work hand in hand with the European Space Agency (ESA) and contribute to international scientific consortia across Europe and beyond. The projects we choose tend to have one thing in common: they push the frontier of what Earth observation can do.

Our story

Zenithal Blue was founded by Roger Oliva with a clear ambition: to lead frontier projects in Earth observation.

Before founding the company, Roger spent years working on the SMOS satellite mission. He wanted to chase new challenges or open new lines of research. So he set out to build something new: a company that could stay at the cutting edge of EO, take on new mission concepts, and pursue the kind of scientific rigor he believed the field deserved.

What started with continued work on SMOS has grown into a portfolio that spans the full EO lifecycle. Today we contribute to future ESA missions, lead scientific projects that propose entirely new climate variables and coordinate international consortia combining the best EO and climate expertise across Europe.

Our approach

We don't take projects to keep busy, we take them because they push the boundaries of what Earth observation can do. From contributing to future ESA missions like CryoRad, scheduled for launch around 2030, to proposing entirely new Essential Climate Variables that no one had measured before, we work where the science is still being written.

Our culture is close to a research center, and that shapes everything we deliver. When we deliver a value, we deliver it with the uncertainty quantified, the methodology documented, and the science solid enough to stand up to peer review. We go after excellence and substantial improvements, not the next tender.

We sit between two worlds: the depth and ambition of academic research, and the stability and execution of a company. That combination shapes both the work we choose and the conditions we offer the team.

The frontier moves fast, and we move with it. We actively pursue funding instruments so our team can keep researching, training, and earning PhDs while working with us. It's a deliberate investment: we believe the professionals doing frontier science should keep growing as scientists.

We're a small team, and we like it that way. No paralyzing bureaucracy, no top-down decisions, no proposals decided behind closed doors. We debate, decide, and build together, and that translates into how we work with external partners too.
